The 2015’s Cap Go Meh celebration is considered very memorable after the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, officially launched the event. The attendees crowded the main stage after the number-one person in the Republic of Indonesia was announced to have arrived.
The festival was also attended by the First Lady, Mrs. Iriana Joko Widodo, Education and Culture Minister (Anies Baswedan), the Governor of West Java (Ahmad Heryawan), and the Mayor of Bogor (Bima Arya).
The opening ceremony was started with various traditional dances from accross Indonesia. After that, the President of RI opened the festival using the national flag which embedded with the Cap Go Meh logo before the cheers of the people.
Governor Ahmad Heryawan said in his speech that the President’s attendance made the people of West Jave very happy. The Governor, widely known as Kang Aher, continued that the Cap Go Meh festival in Bogor is the biggest in West Java. Bigger than the parades in Bandung, Cirebon, and other cities in West Java.
For Kang Aher personally, Cap Go Meh is more of a cultural event than a religious one, because culture is neutral and universal. Kang Aher hoped that the President’s presence will bring good luck to the people of Bogor.
After being launched, the art and culture parade moved from the starting point, the Dhanagun temple, through Suryakancana Street. The notable performer were Bogor Education Center’s marching band, angklung parade, barongsai and the most-awaited liong. The parade went well into the night and the people are happy to attend until the end.
